We have a number of specific days dedicated to all those special people in our lives, mother's day and father's day being the biggies. But if you are a pet parent then you may be interested to know that there's actually a World Veterinary Day. This day is recognized on the last Saturday of April (2017 it's the 29th). Let's explore World Veterinary Day to learn what it's all about. We even have some cool ideas to acknowledge that special pet doctor in your life.

The Origins of World Veterinary Day
This day started back in 2000 as a way to recognize the hard work and dedication of our veterinarians. In 2008 the day was officially changed to World Veterinary Day by the World Veterinary Association, to encompass all those professional animal doctors across the globe.
In addition to having this special occasion, each year there is a theme chosen that reflects the vet's work done in both animal nutrition and medical/security practices.
This year the theme is "antimicrobial resistance - from awareness to action."

6 Ways to Celebrate World Veterinary Day
Don't let your veterinarian go unrecognized this World Veterinary Day.
Here are 3 ways to acknowledge and show appreciation to your pet's special person.
  1. Send a Thank You Never underestimate the power of a simple "thank you." This can be written on a card or sent through an email. Either way, your veterinarian is sure to appreciate the gesture. You can make it more adorable by having your pets be the ones that "sent" it.
  2. Give a Shout Out On Social Media We hear a lot of negative stuff on social media, so this World Veterinary Day give a shout out of praise to your vet on Facebook, Twitter and other electronic social networks of choice. This isn't just a "thank you" but it helps endorse your veterinarian to those that may be searching for one.
  3. Spread the Word
Many folks don't know there is a World Veterinary Day so help spread the word about the important work these dedicated professionals do. This is also a great opportunity to help educate pet parents on the importance of proper pet care, spay and neutering and regular vet checkups.
Mark the Date
Mark the date on your calendar now so you won't forget World Veterinary Day. The important service these doctors provide for our pets is indeed appreciated. Let's be sure to give them all a big THANK YOU!!
